Match Preview
ADO Den Haag will look to build on what is arguably the result of their season as they welcome Heerenveen to the WerkTalent Stadion. Robin Peter’s side remain 17th despite their breakthrough victory, while Heerenveen arrive in eighth with twice as many points after an emphatic win of their own.
ADO stunned PSV Eindhoven 2-1 at home last weekend to claim their first victory at the WerkTalent Stadion this season. They took advantage after PSV were reduced to ten men shortly before half-time, but after surrendering a lead in a 2-2 draw with Telstar, seeing out the win was an important step for a side fighting near the bottom.
The result doubled ADO’s points tally to six and continued a modest attacking improvement, with seven goals across their last five matches. However, their defensive record remains a concern: they have conceded 20 times in nine league games and are still searching for their first clean sheet of the campaign.
Heerenveen arrive in excellent spirits after thrashing Excelsior 4-0, turning a one-goal half-time lead into a comprehensive win with three more after the break. It was their second 4-0 league win of the season, following an earlier success against Sparta Rotterdam, and it lifted Robin Veldman’s team to 12 points.
The visitors have combined that improving attacking output with one of the division’s better defensive records. Heerenveen have conceded only 11 times and their four clean sheets are the most in the Eredivisie, while ten goals across their last five games suggest they are also becoming increasingly productive at the other end.
History also favours the visitors, with Heerenveen unbeaten in their last 11 meetings with ADO, winning six and drawing five. ADO’s victory over PSV should give them renewed confidence, but Heerenveen’s greater balance at both ends of the pitch makes them a difficult opponent to follow that result against.
