Match Preview
NEC Nijmegen welcome unbeaten Feyenoord to the Goffertstadion with both sides sitting in the top half and looking to strengthen encouraging starts. **** Schreuder’s team have six points from three matches and sit seventh, while Feyenoord are third with eight points after two wins and two draws.
NEC arrive on the back of a 3-1 away victory at PEC Zwolle, where Tjaronn Chery scored twice from the penalty spot before substitute Perr Schuurs marked his debut with a late headed goal. Schreuder’s side were efficient rather than dominant, recording four shots on target from seven attempts and repeatedly forcing Zwolle into costly mistakes around their own box.
That result followed a 4-1 win at Willem II and means NEC have now scored eight goals in three league matches, with Chery leading the way on three. Dušan Tadić, Clement Bischoff and Emre Mor have all contributed assists, but the hosts remain without a clean sheet in six matches across all competitions, leaving some defensive vulnerability beneath their strong attacking numbers.
Feyenoord were far less satisfied after being held 2-2 at home by ADO Den Haag. Van Bronckhorst’s side trailed 2-0 after 53 minutes despite dominating possession and chances, before Ayase Ueda and Anis Hadj Moussa rescued a point. Feyenoord finished with 69% possession and more than 26 attempts but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Kilian Nikiema.
The visitors also arrive with a changed attacking picture after Ueda completed a move to Lille on 31 August, removing a striker who had already scored three league goals. Feyenoord nevertheless remain unbeaten in 18 matches across all competitions and have scored 10 times in four Eredivisie fixtures, with Gjivai Zechiël also on three goals.
History heavily favours Feyenoord, who have won 55 of the 90 Eredivisie meetings between the clubs. NEC’s recent attacking form and home setting should make this competitive, but the visitors’ ability to create sustained pressure and their greater depth still give them the stronger platform, particularly if they can avoid the transition problems that hurt them against ADO.
