FC Twente and Telstar finally play their postponed matchday-three fixture on Wednesday after the original August date was moved to accommodate Twente’s Conference League qualifying commitments. John van den Brom’s side sit sixth with seven points from four matches, while Telstar are 14th with four points from the same number of games.

Twente were held to a 2-2 draw away to Groningen on Sunday despite twice showing their attacking quality in the first half. Marko Pjaca capitalised on an early error to open the scoring before Wout Weghorst equalised shortly before the interval after Groningen had turned the match around through Thom van Bergen and Tygo Land.

Weghorst was again central to Twente’s attacking play, finishing with a goal and an assist while recording four shots and six touches inside the penalty area. He and Pjaca now have two league goals apiece, while Sondre Ørjasæter has supplied two assists as Twente continue to average more than two goals per game.

Telstar’s latest result was far more dramatic, as they fought back from two goals down with 10 men to draw 2-2 against Cambuur. Nökkvi Þórisson’s early red card forced Henk Brugge’s side into a deep defensive shape, but goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. became the unlikely hero by converting two penalties, including a 101st-minute equaliser.

The draw showed considerable resilience, but Telstar’s broader defensive numbers remain a concern. They have conceded 10 goals in four matches and remain winless at home, although their only away fixture so far produced an impressive 2-1 victory at NEC. The suspension of Þórisson also removes one attacking option for the trip to Enschede.

Twente should control more of the ball at De Grolsch Veste and possess the stronger attacking structure, particularly through Weghorst’s hold-up play and Ørjasæter’s width. Telstar have already shown they can frustrate stronger opponents away from home, but containing Twente for 90 minutes represents a significantly tougher assignment.
